2017 Topic

From the Ponderosa to La La Land: The Canadian Infiltration of Hollywood

Speaker Geoff Pevere

Pevere pic225Geoff Pevere is a critic, author, lecturer and festival programmer. A former movie critic with The Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail, he is currently the Program Director of the Rendezvous With Madness Film Festival.

Sponsored by Michael and Joan Hanlon

From the very first Biograph Girl to the two Ryans -- Gosling and Reynolds-- Canadians have been sneaking their way into Hollywood movies in all manner of disguises: villains, Presidents, sidekicks, hearthrobs, clowns, Starfleet Commanders and femme fatales. Is there a Canadian persona? And how does it manifest itself under the Hot lights of Hollywood stardom? An investigation of the stealth Canuck.

To be held in Knights of Columbus Hall.  That's a separate building immediately behind the Capitol Theatre.

Coffee is provided but patrons are expected to provide their own lunch - either by bringing it hence the "brown bag" - or ordering it no later than Saturday 1:00pm. If you take this option, the cost will be ~$8.50 - incl taxes - payable at the Festival and not in advance.  You can order this lunch when you register - on Friday or Saturday.

NOTE: This seminar is for holders of Festival Passes only.
